I have recently got into the habit of reading childrens stories and, when I tell my friends about this, they look at me as though I am mad. However, I must explain that, as a teacher, I consider it my responsibility to read childrens stories so that I can share them with my students and, in some cases, recommend suitable books for them to read. Although I am really fond of reading myself, I usually tend to go for classic literature as I am always trying to broaden my own horizons as well as the students I teach. However, once I began reading modern childrens stories, I was absolutely amazed at the quality of some of the works. Some of these books have kept me absolutely gripped and I have even recommended them to my friends as well as my students. One particular book I read recently was so powerful that it has stayed in my memory for a long time and has really made me think differently about things. This is what I really love about very good literature and why I think the classics endure so well. Indeed, I think that some of the books I am reading now will go on to be classics in their own right.

My friend has just begun a new job selling custom books for children and she is doing really well at the moment. Although I was unsure when she first talked to me what custom books for children were, it soon became clear as she explained. Custom books for children are books that are customised to make them personal to the child who is reading them. For example, the story could be customised to include their name in it or the town in which they live. Obviously, the idea of this is that personalising their reading in some way will really make the child engage properly with their book. I think this technique would work particularly well with children who do not like reading and we all know that there are plenty of them. I think it is rather an ingenious idea and I feel that it is a real social service that she is providing in that there must be many young people who do not take advantage of reading because they feel that it is not relevant to them. If she can generate an interest through these books in this type of child, then she will have really made a difference.

My sister has told me that she has begun buying personalized birthday books for her children and she said that they are a great success. Obviously, having personalized birthday books will get children much more interested in what they are reading and she said that her children have really enjoyed receiving and reading the personalised birthday books that they have received. I decided that I would do a little research on the subject for myself as I am always trying to find new things to buy for my children on their birthdays. Obviously they totally clamour for toys, preferably technological things which cost a lot of money and I really cannot afford to be buying this sort of toy on a regular basis. The idea of books really appealed to me as, for not very much money, someone can get hours of enjoyment. I have always loved reading books myself and, fortunately, my children have inherited this interest from me. I know that they would be thrilled with presents like this and feel really excited about buying them. I know that I will be able to get lots of presents for my children with the same money as if I had bought them a computer game each.

Recently a friend and I were discussing the reading habits of our children and we were both lamenting the fact that neither of our children particularly enjoyed reading and they really saw it as a chore rather than a pleasure. Whilst we were talking, my friend said that she had heard of personalized story books for children from a friend of hers. I was intrigued about the notion of personalized story books as I thought that they might actually really make a difference to our children`s reading habits if they thought that the stories they read involved them personally. I decided to find out more about where I could buy personalized story books so that we could try out nan experiment with our children to see if these books would actually make a difference to the interest they took in reading. We both got really excited about the idea and could not wait to begin our experiment. We are both starting our children with one of these books next week and I cannot wait to find out if they make a difference. If they do we are going to be absolutely delighted.

It is my son`s birthday in a couple of weeks and, since he is really keen on reading, I have been looking for some really good story books for children. However, as I am not in the habit of reading story books for children myself, it is hard to know which books are really good and which are not. Luckily I have a friend who is the librarian at the local school and so I decided to go to her for advice about which story books for children I should be choosing for him so that he would really enjoy the story but that also they would be well written enough to be educational as well as entertaining. She was really helpful and gave me a really long list of books which she personally recommended as being fantastic for children my son`s age. I was delighted that I was now able to make an informed decision about which books to buy for him and went straight to the local book shop to choose some. Although he has got other presents as well, I know that his favourites will be the books.
